Your most frequently asked questions…...

Founded by Anne Lemarchand, what does the “R” in ALR stand for?
ALR is simply the three-letter identifier assigned to Anne Lemarchand when she joined Lmt Avocats in 2008, and which has remained with her ever since. The logical choice would have been ALM, but that identifier was already taken. ALR therefore became her identifier and is now her professional “firm identity.”
In court, she is Maître Lemarchand; to her clients, she is Anne; but to everyone who has worked with her, she is—and has always been—ALR.
Do you only advise employers?
Primarily, yes. This is our area of expertise, and we are members of AvoSial, an association of employment lawyers representing employers. However, our values are first and foremost justice and truth. When faced with a situation that we believe is unjust, we cannot simply stand by. We therefore also handle certain cases for individuals, or refer them to trusted partner lawyers.
What sets you apart from other employment law firms?
We are what is known as a “boutique law firm”: a small practice distinguished by its responsiveness, close relationships with clients, and strong expertise in specific areas and sectors.
Our main areas of expertise are the digital and software publishing sectors (SYNTEC), with a particular focus on individual employment law and compliance. Our clients are primarily small and medium-sized businesses, whether newly established or long-standing companies.

Naturally, we also advise clients in a range of other sectors, including Financial Markets, Financial Services, Telecommunications, Hospitality and Food Service, Import-Export, and Non-Profit Organisations.

Finally, we adapt to a wide range of clients and contacts: from the HR Director, who is as knowledgeable about employment law as we are, to the hands-on, multi-tasking CEO, who may turn to us for the simplest legal documents or questions, where a 10-minute call can be enough to provide reassurance and ensure everything is legally sound. We also work with international clients, particularly Japanese and European clients, with whom we need to be highly pedagogical in explaining the specificities of the French legal system.
Is ALR Avocats just two lawyers?
In addition to Magali GODRY, who works full-time at the firm, we work with a number of trusted partner lawyers, either to complement our employment law expertise on specific matters or in areas where we do not have sufficient expertise (corporate law, tax law, commercial law, etc.).

It is essential that all of our clients’ legal needs are addressed with the same level of rigour, responsiveness and professionalism that we provide ourselves. This is why we place great importance on carefully selecting the right partners.
What about your international work?
We practise exclusively under French law, but our clients may be based anywhere in the world. We therefore adapt to their needs and, above all, to their ways of working, which may often differ from our own. Our command of both German and English enables us to do so effectively.

We advise on a wide range of international employment matters, including international mobility, secondment and expatriation, the recruitment of foreign employees, the harmonisation of HR practices, support for French subsidiaries, and coordination with our foreign counterparts.

The firm is the French representative of Carpe Jus, the European network of German-speaking lawyers, which is present in 13 European countries.
Why hire a lawyer now that AI can do everything?
This is a question that all professions facing the rise of AI, including the legal profession, ask themselves on a daily basis as they adapt the way they work. AI is highly effective at compiling data, extracting information and producing written summaries. Its identified sources can sometimes be highly reliable, and we naturally use AI in our work, relying on highly sophisticated tools.

What AI cannot do, however, is tailor its advice to the DNA of each company and each employee, to the human history of an employment relationship, or to the specific culture and practices of a particular employer. A lawyer’s expertise and experience make it possible to tailor advice and strategy as closely as possible to each client. The approach will therefore differ from one client to another, even when the underlying facts are identical.

AI also lacks the practical experience of the relationships with courts and judges that are essential to handling litigation effectively: knowing how to present and plead a case before a particular court is something only a lawyer’s experience and expertise can provide.

AI is therefore not our enemy, but our partner.

Anne Lemarchand

/ PARTNER

Since 2006, Anne Lemarchand has practised exclusively in employment law, advising and representing clients in both contentious and advisory matters.

She subsequently developed the employment law team at 140VH Avocats from 2010 to 2024, before joining Lmt Avocats as its 15th partner in October 2024. She founded ALR Avocats in July 2026.

She advises and represents employers of varying sizes and across a broad range of industries in both individual and collective employment matters. Her practice focuses particularly on the digital sector, where she has developed specific expertise in the Engineering and Technical Consultancy sector (formerly SYNTEC) and established partnerships with key industry stakeholders, including through hotlines, employment law briefings, webinars and publications

When individual negotiations fail, we represent our clients before the competent courts, both in employment law (Employment Tribunal and Court of Appeal) and in Social Security law (Judicial Court and Court of Appeal). Our litigation experience also enables us to anticipate and assess risks at an early stage, and to develop strategies tailored to each case.

With extensive experience handling cross-border matters and full professional proficiency in English and German, we support international groups in their development in France, as well as French companies facing international employment law issues.

Training and Employment Compliance

Training teams and anticipating regulatory developments are often the best ways to prevent risks.

As an accredited training provider, we regularly host webinars open to all, covering a range of current employment law topics and issues frequently encountered by our clients, including annualised working days, variable compensation, employees’ privacy, and “trap” clauses in employment contracts.
